If it can leverage NVIDIA DLSS 4 correctly, the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 could get some serious gaming performance boosts. A new video featuring Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 puts the technology front and center with some pretty fantastic visual and framerate improvements, even on mid-tier hardware.
NVIDIA DLSS 4 Shows Impressive Performance
A new video by RandomGaminginHD showcases Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 running on a PC equipped with an RTX 4060 GPU. The game was rendered at an extremely low 360p base resolution but upscaled to 1080p using NVIDIA DLSS 4 on the Ultra Performance setting. Despite the low base resolution, the upscaled image quality remained surprisingly good, with smooth performance at high settings.
Without ray tracing, the title ran at about 90 frames per second with the highest settings. With the Ultimate Ray Tracing setting enabled, performance tumbled to 53 frames per second, but that’s very respectable for a game this graphically intensive. This is indeed a great display of the capabilities of the new Transformer model from DLSS 4 and a potential game-changer if implemented properly on the Nintendo Switch 2.
What Does This Mean for the Nintendo Switch 2?
Rumor has it that the Nintendo Switch 2 will support NVIDIA DLSS, and if it packs DLSS 4, it could grant the console sharper visuals and stronger performance even on less capable hardware. Since handheld consoles are essentially small 1080p screens, the upscaling technology can maintain high-quality graphics while keeping power consumption at bay.
If Nintendo Switch 2 manages to apply AI-powered upscaling using DLSS 4, then games would look considerably better while running silk-smooth, hence, proving to be a massive leap over the original Nintendo Switch. The million-dollar question will be whether the hardware capability of the new console will be fully equipped to handle DLSS 4 without spoiling performance.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s PC Launch Issues
While Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was a full showcase of NVIDIA DLSS 4, its PC release has been quite the mess. An originally PS5-exclusive game, it came to PC last week but immediately started to suffer from crashing issues affecting most players.
Sony and developer Nixxes took some time in issuing a hotfix for these problems. While the update ironed out some of the egregious issues, some players are reportedly still experiencing crashes, per reports. Crashing issues notwithstanding, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is one of the best-looking games around.
Final Thoughts
Assuming that is indeed true for the Nintendo Switch 2 and it features NVIDIA DLSS 4, this could totally up the stakes regarding handheld gaming performance with even finer visuals and smooth gameplay. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 showed, in this regard, what even the more lowly GPU models could do with DLSS 4, so perhaps the next console from Nintendo will do just that to push new boundaries for portable gaming.
As it currently stands, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is now available worldwide on PC and PlayStation 5, while the next in line, Nintendo Switch 2, is still under anticipation for further details and possible features.
