OnePlus Open 2 Design Leaked, Expected To Launch In Early 2025

The OnePlus Open has been the standout foldable phone for the past 18 months. With its performance and features it set the bar high for the foldable market. Now rumors of its successor the OnePlus Open 2 are gaining traction and it promises to bring exciting upgrades and new design elements.

Newly designed Exterior: Rounded Edges and Hasselblad Camera Module

Recent leaks shared by Smartprix in collaboration with Yogesh Brar and Chunvn provide a look at the “final-stage prototype” of the OnePlus Open 2. At first glance it looks similar to the previous one but there are subtle changes.

Unlike the straight edges of the original, the OnePlus Open 2 has rounded corners and edges same as the upcoming OnePlus 13. The circular Hasselblad branded camera module is still on the back but the internal sensors are rearranged.

Larger, Thinner Build with Bigger Displays

When unfolded the OnePlus Open 2 looks larger and thinner than the previous one. According to reports the phone will be under 10mm thick making it one of the thinnest foldables in the US.

The foldable display is expected to have an 8 inch LTPO panel with 2K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, slightly bigger than the 7.82 inch screen of the original. Externally the cover screen will reportedly be 6.4 inches, giving users more screen real estate.

Powerful Hardware: Snapdragon 8 Elite and 1TB Storage

Under the hood the OnePlus Open 2 is rumored to be powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, it will be the first foldable in the US to have this processor. This will be paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage for power users and multitaskers.

Camera Upgrades: Triple 50MP Sensors

The OnePlus Open 2 will have a triple 50MP rear camera setup. This includes a primary sensor, telephoto zoom lens and ultra-wide lens. For selfies and video calls it will have 32MP sensor on the cover screen and 20MP sensor on the inner display.

Battery and Charging: Bigger Capacity, Faster Speeds

Battery life is going to get a big boost with a 5,900mAh battery, up from 4,805mAh on the original OnePlus Open. Charging speeds will also be faster, 80W wired and 50W wireless. You’ll be able to go longer and charge faster.

Durability: IPX8 for Water and Dust Resistance

Another big plus is the IPX8 dust and water resistance rating. This addresses one of the biggest flaws of many foldables and adds another layer of protection for you.

Release: Early 2025

Initial reports said late 2025 but newer leaks say the OnePlus Open 2 could launch in China as early as early 2025 and globally in Q1 2025. With leaks getting more frequent, the release might be sooner than expected.

Conclusion: A Game Changer in Foldables?

The OnePlus Open 2 is looking to be a big upgrade over the original, with a better design, more powerful hardware, better cameras and durability. If the rumors are true, this foldable will set the bar high and solidify OnePlus as a trendsetter.

As we await official announcements, the OnePlus Open 2 remains one of the most exciting devices to watch for in 2025.
